Pootle - Moodle

Hi there,

I've just been informed of an interesting open source web based translation tool named Pootle ( The name stands for PO-based Online Translation / Localization Engine).

I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience using this tool or others like it when translating software? I'm currently working on an Icelandic translation of Moodle and I think an online collaboration tool like Pootle could really be of great use to icelandic Moodlers.

Pootle can be found at: http://pootle.wordforge.org/

best regards,

I think no one came up with the idea, but ist must be possible with a small hack to do that with the normal moodle editor.

I would suggest the following: set up a test moodle, make everyone colaborating the Icelandic translation as an administrator, make the icelandic language folder writeable by apache and use the build in editor. One person takes the responsability to regularly download the updated language files from the server and post them in the Moodle CVS-folder.

This approach has the advantage that every change is immediately in your testmachine, so translators can check it, check if "the translation fits the button" etc
