I want to use Moodle but.....

I'm looking for a resource to getting started with Moodle (2.4.1).

I have downloaded a sandbox to work in but I really want to understand the infrastructure.

First I'd like to know how to create a course like Hot to use a wordpress theme (does it have to be wordpress); How to connect plugins. I've figured out how to put in content (as I've used other software in the past). 

So at the end of the day I'm looking for how to create a course; how to create a framework for registration and accepting payments etc.

Can anyone direct me to any resources?
