Have a 1.9.highest configured to use LDAP.  Have, on the same server, a version 2.4.highest.  Would it be possible to put the 1.9 site in maintenance and use a copy of the 2.4's auth/ldap/cli/sync_users.php script from command line of the 1.9 directory to sync ldap users in the 1.9 site?  Other than the config.php file it does require /course/lib.php ... so I guess am also asking is there anything in a 2.4 lib.php that much different than /course/lib.php of a 1.9 that would trap/error, etc. or mess up the mdl_user table?

Have already run the sync on the 2.4.highest with no issues.

The 'customer' (actually doing a freebie) is aware of the 'drop dead date' for fixes/patches/updates of the 1.9, but desires to continue to use it and make it a WAN only web app in a virtual apache known only inside the private network (despite my encouragement otherwise :\).

Thanks, in advance, for any advice ...
