Video links missing in forum message

Hi Moodlers

We've recently upgraded to Moodle 2.4 and I've been getting used to the new features, before it goes live to our students in a week's time.

One thing that I'd like your help with is what happens when I insert a youtube link in a forum message. It shows fine when logged in and viewing the message inside moodle, but the email copy of the message doesn't show the video or even a bit of text linking to it.

This left one of my messages looking like I'd forgotten to insert the video at all, eg, "This video shows...." then empty space.

I'd expect to see at least a link, in place of the embedded clip. The only rough work-around I've found so far is to paste in the url from you-tube as text, but I'd prefer to have some clean text, like the video title, as a hyperlink to the source.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Brent

Hi Brent

Yes, you are right email from the forum in moodle does not show any image and videos and not even links are there. it is the default behaviour.

So any ideas how to change that?  it seems to be a step down in functionality from our older version which at least included the text links in email messages.

The auto-embedding of videos seems nice, but not when it takes away the ability to show any link to a video in the email version of the forum post sad

Hope someone has found a nice way around this?

A solution, of sorts...

My colleague found that selecting the link and clicking on 'prevent auto linking' in the toolbar changed the auto-embedded clip into a plain link, which showed up as expected in the forum email message.

(button with the chain link with red cross over it)

I'd prefer if the default behaviour was the opposite, ie insert the normal link and require the extra click to convert to an embedded video. But at least its a solution!

Maybe this will help someone else who has been frustrated by this feature?
