Manager role in site context... Remove abiliy to edit front page?

I've searched around for this for some time now but can't seem to work it out or find an answer online so I'm wondering if anyone here has some advice?

The user is assigned the Manager role at the site level not the front page level, so I can't just remove them from within the Front Page Roles section.  Also if I prevent moodle/course:update (as suggested here) then the Manager can no longer turn editing mode on within a course.

Can anyone think of another way I can prevent Managers from being able to edit the "Front page settings"?

Off the top of my head you could either (a) add them as a manager to categories instead of the site or (b) trust them not to edit the front page?

Thanks Mary, I think option A is the way I'll probably have to go, as is always the case I thought of that pretty much as soon as I'd submitted the forum post!
