We currently use Moodle 1.9.12.
Students, even though they are subscribed to the forum, can view posts to a single simple discussion forum but cannot reply.
The main settings are as follows:
Force everyone to be subscribed = Yes, initially
However, clicking on show/edit current subscribers indicates that the forum only has 2 subscribers. I tried logging on as a student who did not appear in this list and the message 'You must be a group member to subscribe' appeared.
Group settings are:
Group mode = Separate groups (for forum), separate groups (for course)
There are 3 groups. OCN IT (1 student), Year 1 (1 student) and Year 2 (0 students). There are many other students who are not in a group.
The initial post in the forum was to all participants.
