Student unable to reply to a forum discussion

Hi, 

I have a standard forum which has 2 discussions.  Students have been able to post and reply in both discussions.  One has got 91 replies to it now, but then students have now lost the ability to reply to the discussion.  I can't see a reply limit on the settings so I'm a little confused as to why students can't reply.  I'm running 2.3.2+

I'm having the same problem.

And to top it all off I have accidently clicked something which means that I cannot edit the forum anymore.
