Images uploaded from my files don't show in course notes page

Hello,

I am having problems with images being able to be seen when a Hotpotatoes (Cloze) activity is uploaded to Moodle course notes page.

When I created the activity I placed all images and the hotpotatoes exercise and its htm version in the one folder on my computer (nothing else was in the folder - though I did not start by putting the hotpotatoes exercise there - so perhaps the order of placing them in the folder created a problem??).

I created a folder in the Legacy Course Files (Moodle 1.9) and added and saved all the images, and the hotpotatoes .jcl and .htm in that folder.

I uploaded the htm version to the course notes page. It all worked (including images inserted through their URLs) BUT the images from my computer were not there.

Is there anything I should have done?

Thanks,

Kathy

hi Kathy,
am I correct in understanding that you are using Moodle 1.9?

Am I not sure what you mean by the "Moodle course notes page". Do you mean simply the Moodle course page?

Please attach the JCloze file to your next post to this forum.

Yes I am using Moodle 1.9.

And, yes, I guess it is the Moodle course page (we refer to it as the course notes page - but that's just local variation, I guess).

I've attached the .clz file

You'll notice that I use the 'reading text' area to provide information. That is where the images are.

Thanks very much for looking at it.

Hi Kathy
thanks for the JCloze file. It seems fine.

Could you now upload the file and its associated images to my testing server, and then add it as a new HotPot activity so that we can look at it together.

thanks
Gordon

Gordon - I've now uploaded the files (.jcl; .htm; plus 3 .png image files). I then added it (using add a resource/file/choose .htm) to the course page.
As you will be able to see the file works for everything including those images inserted using their URLs BUT NOT the 3 images (anki card; accountants must obey the rules; those who love words) I had selected from my computer.
All image files are .png. These images were in the same folder on my computer as the one used for the hotpotatoes files, selected from this folder for inclusion in the .clz file, and then uploaded with the hotpotatoes files into a folder to the files area of your course. Kathy

Kathy -just a thought while you are waiting for Gordon -have you tried saving those png images with names without any spaces?

Mary - I'll try that - but Moodle handles other file names without spaces (it inserts _ for each space). Also the Cloze works on my computer - so it can handle names without spaces.

HA HA - but just thought! Maybe because Moodle inserts '-' Hotpotatoes can't recognise the file name. Off I go to test your theory!!

Reporting back: Mary - your theory is correct!! Hotpotatoes IN MOODLE cannot recognise the file names for images IF they have spaces in them (I'm guessing because Moodle changes the names by filling in the space with '-').

So - I uploaded a new version to your course page test site, Grodon - where 2 of the 3 files that were added from my computer had file names with no spaces, and 1 had spaces in the filename.

Result: The ONLY image that didn't work was the one with spaces. Lesson learned.

AND Oh from another forum Mary: you are correct - I checked our Moodle is 2.0.

Thank you Gordon and Mary - wonderful help!
