A few basic questions about task chain
Number of replies: 4
Hello Gordon (and all),
I'm wandering about:
1. When you say it will replace Hotpotatoes, do you mean hotpotatoes won't be supported in future versions of Moodle?
2. Will HotPot files be able to be converted to Task Chain files?
3. Does Task Chain have a space (e.g. like the 'add a reading task' or 'subtitle' in Hotpotatoes where material can be added which the students need to learn before doing the quiz?
4. I do like the possibility of a report (separate from a Grade mark) for Task Chain - and I guess Task Chain solves the problem I see people discussing of Hotpotatoes finding all media files in the 2.x versions. Is there somewhere that I can find out about any additional features (I read the link you gave in an earlier thread on Task Chain).
Thinking ahead - as I'm creating hotpotatoe files for academic language skills for a a number of courses. I need to know that that work can be used for sometime into the future!!
Thanks a lot
Kathy
Re: A few basic questions about task chain
Another TaskChain question: Is there anywhere where taskchain is set up so you can create an account and have a play?

Re: A few basic questions about task chain
Hi Derek,
you are welcome to have a play on my research server. Choose the Moodle version that matches your target system and off you go:
- URL: http://bateson.kanazawa-gu.ac.jp/
- Username: guest teacher
- Password: taskchainv09
(that's "zero nine" at the end of the password)
enjoy!

Re: A few basic questions about task chain
Hi Kathy,
1. I will continue to support both HotPot and TaskChain
2. I think you are slightly confused about Hot Potatoes (the quiz making software that runs on your PC) and the HotPot module which allows you the administer Hot Potatoes quizzes via Moodle. Hot Potatoes will not change and Hot Potatoes files will not change. Indeed, I can't change them because I did not create, neither do I maintain Hot Potatoes. You will continue to be able to administer Hot Potatoes quizzes via the HotPot module, and in addition you will be able to administer them with the TaskChain module as well.
3. You will continue to he able to add a reading with Hot Potatoes on your PC. No change there.
4. TaskChain will offer the same features as QuizPort, except that TaskChanin will run on Moodle2.x
Please rest assured that any courses you have created with the HotPot, QuizPort and TaskChain modules will continue to work for a long time into the future.
kind regards
Gordon
Re: A few basic questions about task chain
Thanks for that Gordon. I am indeed confused by the difference - as I have not yet used hotpotatoes as part of the grading system. That's an adventure for sometime in the future.
It is great to know you will keep supporting Hotpotaoes and TaskChain. I hope this counts as research time ot your university!
