In our old version of Moodle (1.9) we could create tables in text editing boxes of blocks and web pages. There was even an icon with an arrow that allowed advanced features like adding a column/row, merging cells, and moving cells up/down. There was also an easy way to add and delete columns and rows. In the new version these options are gone. In addition, we cannot create gridlines in our tables even with the "borders=1" and the column widths change depending on your text within them. When you open an existing, pre-Moodle 2.2 page with a table, the columns and rows are present but no lines, and when you start to edit things turn messy.
This is an issue for many teachers who use tables to separate their daily lessons and organize their content. I went onto the help forum at Moodle.org and the suggestions they make (changing the HTML code for every table) is beyond the ability of most teachers (including myself). There has got to be a better way, right?
Hi there. I tried to make a table in this text editor here and then when I selected it and right clicked on it I got quite a few of the options you mention above -is this what you get and your teachers feel it is too complex?
I don't get this menu when I right click. I'm on a mac now but also tried to right click on a PC and couldn't get it there either. When I right click I get cut/paste options, "view selection source" and "inspect element" (which throws me into HTML).
Strangely enough, I tried right clicking with a mouse (on a mac laptop) and was able to to get this menu. I'm pretty sure I right clicked my mouse withthe PC yesterday when I was trying at school, but I will try again next time I'm there. For now, using a mouse has solved the issue.
Thanks for your help.
Hi, Ann. This has been driving me a little crazy, too, but it hasn't yet been urgent that I resolve it as I'm the only one needing the tables at the moment. However, I agree, that as soon as the other teachers arrive on the site, they will want to see this editor whether they are Mac or PC. Both Mary and Paula have sent me screen shots of it and have tried to help me find it, but it seems to be a Mac/browser issue. I tried your trick of plugging in a mouse (but I guess since it is a Mac mouse, it doesn't work).
I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I've waited for updates to 2.3. Is anyone having any luck with this on a Mac in some other browser?
I'm currently doing the workaround for the HTML editor listed here in the tracker, but I agree that most teachers will not want to mess with that. They will just want a table that works.
Anyone know of any other hints we can share with teachers having this issue in Moodle 2 now that the school year is starting?
