Add new and update existing users on bulk upload

Hi all

We are on 1.9.5


When a bulk user upload is used and the Add new and update existing users is selected, will only new courses be associated with that account? Or should a new email address also be updated at the time?


Example: Student took an course a year ago and had one email at that time. Now they are registering for a new course and have a different email. What we have happening is the new course gets added to thier account, but the email does not get updated at the same time.

Is that function typical or expected? Is there a way to update the email with the bulk upload? It seem like Moodle uses emails a sort of user id so a new email would be seen as a new user, but maybe i'm not thinking about this correct?

Hi Tiffany,

We were using Moodle 1.9.9 a year or so ago ... when we uploaded the csv file we were able to change most things simultaneously. For example: firstname, lastname, city, institution, department, email, course1, group1.

"Course1" related to the course short name and "group1" related to the desired group allocated within course1.

We are now using Moodle 2.3.1 and this process still works well for us although automating this authentication/enrolment activity will be completed this year.
