Enrolment

I was wondering how I might import our users and possibly groups directly into Moodle from eDirectory (or Active Directory).  Currently I can get users to authenticate with their eDirectory user name and password once they go through the account creation process but I would like to know if I can use eDirectory as the basis for the accounts or just create the accounts directly from eDirectory.
