Hmmm...how can I delete an uploaded assignment without having to replace it with another?

Hmmm...how can I delete an uploaded assignment without having to replace it with another?

In Moodle 2.16, I was trying to delete a student's assignment that was uploaded to the dropbox. I was able to go through the motions of deleting it but it wanted me to upload another file. So unless I added a new file, it wouldn't let me delete the old one.

Is there a way in 2.16 to remove required field option for assignment uploads so that you can delete an uploaded file from a dropbox without having to replace it?  NOTE: I did have the dropbox set to “Allow deleting” but I still couldn't delete the file without replacing it with another.

If anyone has experienced this issue in Moodle 2, please let me know, even if you don't have a solution for it. Thanks!

Wow. This is quite the change from 1.9! Teachers can't delete student files in Assignment. I don't think I have read about that anywhere yet.

AND, once the student submits, the student can't delete the file either, eh?

I'm looking at both 2.2.3 and 2.3 (school.demo.moodle.net). Sorry, don't have 2.1.6 available.

I also hadn't realized that the send for marking seems to be automatically turned off. I can't find a way while editing in 2.3 to turn it off?

Yes, unless I have missed something this still seem to be a problem in 2.2.4+

You can revert to draft but if the student then deletes the file (as the Teacher or Admin can't) it seems that there must be at least one file otherwise the update will not occur i.e. even though the student deletes the file the file will still be there. You can delete the submission and upload a replacement "blank" or "tobedeleted" file and that will work but it seems that at least one file must be submitted.

Would love to know if this has been fixed in 2.3 or is being fixed!?

This is somewhat the default mode of Moodle.  It will email course participants (i.e., students and instructor's) the post whenever there is a new one.  Of course, CRON has to be set up to correctly.  It becomes a little more challenging for students to either reduce the emails to one per day (in their profile), or to "unsubscribe" (I never recommend this).

For example, you should be getting emails from this forum, right?  This should be exactly what happens in your course.

For those coming to Moodle from Blackboard, this might seem awkward.  Eventually, loved!

Students and teachers who don't like emails will also be a little disturbed.

As I read my own reply, I think this one is somewhat misplaced.  I think that I was replying to a different post.

Sorry that this happened.
