If your theme supports custom CSS, you can usually target the assignment activity class directly and tweak the colors there without affecting the rest of the course layout. I’ve had to do something similar before just to improve visibility for students. For matching colors, I sometimes grab the exact hex from screenshots with https://colorpickerimage.org/ first, then test it in the theme CSS.

Submitted assigments for users suspended from the platform disappear from the Submissions list. They only reappear if you reactivate them.

Has anyone managed to resolve this? We are on 4.5 LTS and the plan is not to upgrade until 5.3 LTS next summer. We are receiving quite a few complaints about this, but don't want to start implementing changes to core assignment. I also can't find this exact issue on the tracker. If anyone can share an update that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your response, I can see how that would work. I think we can find a similar work around be entering a zero into each mark box. Not ideal though!

I also noticed your name this morning in the Moodle Tracker commenting on their "Assignment marking improvements - Marking workflows project". It would be good to see these kinds of fixes being implemented with it in the near future.

We don't use marking guide, but had the same problem with the rubric. We solved it by adding one extra criterium 'yet to be marked'. Teachers will need to check this if they save a rubric, so that it can be saved. The student will know the mark is not final as some criteria have the score 'yet to be marked'. You can also use the marking workflow to hide this for students until the final grade is released. I don't know if something like this is possible for marking workflow though. We prefer rubrics.

So yes, I have set up everything right.

Here's a hint for anyone trying this: always set your course start date to January 1st. If not, you will have to continuously calculate every deadline for every assignment. If the deadline would be 100 days after the course start, it's easier to find out when to set it if your course start date is January 1st then when your course start date is June 17th

The best way to test is to log in as a test student and as a teacher - Do not switch role - actually log in as a user with each role...and just to clarify - when you set up the course, you selected Relative Dates on this screen?

After you create the assignment, you should see this:

Thanks! A bit confusing though. Will every (individual) student see the correct deadline? And how do teachers know what the deadline for that specific student is?

There are no settings specifically to show.

The way the relative dates function works, is you need to set a start date for the course - e.g. 1st January 2026

Then in the assignment, if you set the due date as 14th January, it will automatically work out that this is 14 days after the start date, so if someone joins on the 5th June, the due date for that student for that assignment would be the 18th June
