I have a current production site, and it is getting too complicated. So, I have been thinking about metacourses. Maybe someone here can give me some advice...
Basically, I have students who are doing independent studies, though they are in the same course. For example, some are doing aeronautics, some are doing photography, and some are doing electronics.
I want to allow the ones who are doing various studies to click on a link in the main course which will direct them to only their area of study. Once there, they can read all the activities and forums associated with their area of study. But I also want the main course to have general information and shared activities that all students perform, so in the child courses there should be a link back to the main course also.
So, what I question is whether I can extract the current activities I have in the main course and port them over to child courses (and of course delete them from the main course while doing so)?
Secondly, what do I have to do manually in an existing main course title concerning enrollments? Will I have to manually enroll the students into the child courses? I really just want to allow any student in the main course to visit any other child course, even though I may have them specifically engaged in the child course activities.
Will this work on a currently running course without blowing up my Moodle? If so, what's the best way to go about it?
