I want to use each student post one discussion. I want to restrict student's ability to read other student's posting until after they have posted their discussion.How do I do that? The Question & Answer forum has that feature but the where it is set up won't work.
One way would be to have the initial student discussion post be a field of the database entry.

What do you mean by, "the where it is set up won't work"? The Question & Answer forum has always worked fine for me.
Could you maybe post a screenshot of what you see as not working?
You maybe need to create a dummy "student" so that you can see what happens from a student's point of view. In "teacher" role it appears quite differetly.
