You can add 'Description' items to your quiz with seciton headings / introductory text. Is that what you mean?
Hi Tim,
Thanks for your reply. I want sectionwise quiz, something like
Section -A :-
10 to 20 questions will be displayed
Section -B :-
10 to 20 questions will be displayed
Section -c :-
10 to 20 questions will be displayed
here all sections are part of one quiz. And students needs to attempt test one another( Section ).
Following Tim's advice, you can use "description" (it's listed as one of question types, though it's not in fact a question) to create headings for your sections. You can also divide the quiz into pages, so that each section is displayed on its own, on a separate page.
Hi Stencel,
Thank u for your suggestion. Since im new to moodle, so can u tell me step by step process of the above. So that it would be helpful for me.

"is there any plugin for same '
No.
This does not exist yet, but the OU is planning some changes to the edit quiz page which would add this ability, amonst other things. Once we have more details about our proposals, I will be posting about them here, for discussion.
Hi Tim,
Glad to know that OU is planning some changes to this. One use case that I run into recently is like this: Think about the TOEFL tests, there are several sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing). Each section has its own time limit, and the whole quiz (test) has its own time limit. In the Speaking section, it looks like this:
#1. Talk about a pleasant and memorable event that happened while you were in school. Explain why this event brings back fond memories.
Preparation Time: 15 seconds
Response Time: 45 seconds
#2. Some people think it is more fun to spend time with friends in restaurants or cafés. Others think it is more fun to spend time with friends at home. Which do you think is better? Explain why.
Preparation Time: 15 seconds
Response Time: 45 seconds
So at the question level, it would require its own time limit as well.
Just a use case for all of us to think about, hope this helps...
We have no interest in time-limit per-section or per question.
Hi Tim, thanks for your reply.
Does anyone know of a simple hack or work-around to get this done? Also with Articulate or Captivate SCORM, I assume that it should be possible to implement this (automated advancing to the next page with timed multiple choice questions, without students have to click on "Next" button)? Thanks in advance!
Hello Tim,
Will different section feature be available in moodle 2.6 or 2.7 and when can we expect it to be available for users. Will there be section-wise scores and ranks too ?
Thanks
It will not be 2.6. It almost certainly will be 2.7. It will not include section scores.
I am on version 2.6 and would like to know how we can add sections to a quiz. I am keen on ensuring the user is able to see a set of questions relating to a category at one time and them move to the next for instance
Writing Sections
Questions 1 to 5
Reading Section
question 6 to 10
Listening Section
question 11 to 15
I am ok if the scoring is for the entire quiz.
It would be great if you can confirm if it is possible to accomplish this.
You can't yet.
In a future version of Moodle, this will be possible.
I wrote a plugin to display grades per question category. So you could put each sections question in a different category and thus you could display grades per section in a quiz.
See the link above for more details about the plugin.
Way to go Jamie, so many people will appreciate this!
Thanks Emma.
Wonderful Jamie...congo
can we set time limit by category as well?
Hi Jamie,
I'm new to moodle. Using Moodle 2.8 version.
I downloaded and tried to install your plugin.
Getting "Invalid Plugin Name" error. Shown in attached.
What can i do to go further?
Thanks in Advance.
Add this line :
require($CFG->dirroot.'/mod/quiz/accessrule/gradebycategory/settings.php');
I am confused where and in which file I should add this lineHii jamie Pratt its actually very good plugin, I have successfully installed it, this plugin works fine. its actually Great work done by you .
I want section category's (e.g - Aptitute,Resoning) avg result column immediately after end of question of category section, So Is its possible to rearrange columns of average result.
hi,,how to develop sectionwise quiz please help
Arshad -if you want different sections in a quiz then you can have them as standard in Moodle 2.9
In reply to your direct message (I prefer to reply in public so everyone can see ) try looking in the documentation, specifically Building Quiz and the section https://docs.moodle.org/en/Building_Quiz#Section_headings .
Marks will be for the whole quiz, not for sections.
Mary, Is there any way to create sections in Moodle 2.8.
I tried creating sections with description (question type).
Its working awesome while displaying. But, the database counting those sections(description) along with questions.
Section - 1
Q-1, Q-2, .....Q-10
Section - 2
Q-11, Q-12, ....Q-20.
But, in the database showing, this quiz having total 22 questions.
Hi Arshad,
If you are able to install plugins, you could use the Dataform module. Some time ago I asked in the Dataform forum: Can a Dataform activity be set up to give feedback related to category total? Maybe this will help you.
With kind regards,
Hartmut
