Hi everyone,

As Martin posted in the general developer forum, we're hoping to release Moodle 2.2 in just over two weeks time on 1st December 2011. To ensure a top quality release, we're running another QA testing cycle, starting today: Moodle 2.2 QA. The list of over 200 QA tests has been expanded to include tests covering new features and improvements in Moodle 2.2.

Our QA testing site will be updated daily at 11:00 UTC with the latest bug fixes and Moodle HQ developers are on standby to fix any bugs causing QA tests to fail as quickly as possible, so QA testers can re-run any previously failed tests within a day or two. Alternatively you can download 2.2 beta (package built daily) from http://download.moodle.org/.

We're aiming for a 100% pass rate of QA tests so all testing help is much appreciated! Please see QA testing for details of how you can be involved.

Hi Helen,

I'm all set to take part in the moodle 2.2 QA tests, but I usually do this on my own local moodle test site where I have various versions of Moodle.

You say tests should be conducted on a Moodle 2.2 beta version but the latest version of moodle 2.2 (aka "master") I can download either from http://download.moodle.org/ or from https://github.com/moodle/moodle (my preferred way of keeping up-to-date) is the following:

$release  = '2.2dev (Build: 20111102)'; // Human-friendly version name
$maturity = MATURITY_ALPHA;

It's an alpha, not a beta. And it's not been updated since 20111102 and does not seem to be "updated on a daily basis". Any idea? Should I still start conducting QA tests on that version???

Also, it would be very useful to QA testers if the http://qa.moodle.net/ test site displayed very clearly somewhere on its welcome page the full details of the version being used (with date etc).

Joseph

Looks like qa.moodle.net runs that very same version.

I double-checked with Eloy whether the QA testing site was really running the latest code and he explained:

"Sure you are running latest code, but the $version is being updated NOW, while it's sent upstream, that's the exact moment it gets updated.

"One of the steps of the mdl release process (for weeklies/betas/rcs/minor/major releases) is to update version.php to the raised version (and not before).

"The QA site automated scripts just ensure you're running last code from integration.git (with the changes added) but within those changes is not the version.php one - that is added the last."

Thanks to everyone who has made a start on the 2.2 QA tests. So far, 29% of tests have passed! ހުއްދަ ދިނުން There are currently 5 failed tests. Hopefully the bugs causing these failures will be fixed within a day or two, then the tests can be reset and run again.

Sam, thanks for offering your help too. You are now a member of the testers group in the Moodle tracker. Please see the documentation QA testing for details of how to run QA tests.
