Official app couldn't connect

Official app couldn't connect

I'm on the admins for our Moodle site. Whenever I try to connect using My Moodle, I get the message that says "Couldn't connect: thie site must be Moodle 2.1 or later."

We're running 2.1+ and Web Services have been enabled. We're running a secure site, so we have the https:// on there, which I tried both with and without.

What else should I check?

Nevermind. I got it. For our site, we had to enter no "https://" or http anything. Go figure.

Hi Dan,
if you are calling a https site and it doesn't work with https:// at the beginning and works without it, then it's weird smile Can you write a tracker issue for that ? (https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MOBILE)
Thanks,
Jerome

Dan,

I am having the same problem on my test server.

Could you elaborate on what you found to resolve it?  When you state 'had to enter no "https://" or http anything.'

I can't seen to find any site settings that relate to this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Paul

Well, after reviewing the situation I think your referring to the MyMoodle 'Add a Site' parameter for Site URL.  Eliminating a prefix still didn't resolve my problem.

However, if I use the IP in the URL I get the error 'Please check your login details or ask your site admin to check Moodle configuration'

If I use the local dns name in the URL I get the error 'Couldn't connect: the site must be Moodle 2.1 or later'

We are running Moodle 2.2

Again, any advice would be appreciated.

Eric - the old app is no longer supported. Use this one (handy that it requires min moodle v2.4!):

I have this installed as well, with Mobile Web Services enabled.

I've got the same issue.  But removing https:// has no effect.  We do have an unsigned(self signed actually)/unregistered certificate for the beta site but that will be replaced with an actual registered signed cert once the site goes live.  Is it possible that this might be causing the app to block access to the server?

Hi Thom,

I haven't try an invalid certificate but the app may not work with an invalid certificate. Can you let us know if it works once you update for a valid certificate?

Cheers,
Jerome

Hi Jerome,

I could wait for that but it won't be for a couple more months according to our sysadmin group.  The challenge is that the error message the Moodle for iPhone app is giving me states that "Moodle version must be 2.1 or greater".

However, I'm on 2.2 latest.  So the error message isn't valid.

Can you help me to troubleshoot the problem a little more?  Like is there a "debug" option I can turn on to get more information?

I could give you a temporary login on our site if that would help.

Dongsheng will have a look.

Cheers,

Jerome

PS: don't hesitate to create tracker issue when you notice somthing wrong smile

Thanks, Jerome...  I'll do that in the future.

I have a little software dev. background and I hesitate before creating tracker issues on instinct.  I usually assume I've got something set up wrong.  But in this case I think I've been careful enough.
