I'm using Moodle 2.x, recently upgraded from 1.9 I think - anyway, a lot of changes.

I have people I need to assign as Teachers, noneditingTeachers and even Students ... but I can not for the life of me find out how to do this.

Either from this page - or anywhere else? help .....

Assign roles in SystemHelp with Assign roles

WARNING! Any roles you assign from this page will apply to the assigned users throughout the entire system, including the front page and all the courses.

Please choose a role to assign

RoleDescriptionUsers with role
Manager Managers can access course and modify them, they usually do not participate in courses. 1 xxxx
Course creator Course creators can create new courses and teach in them. 1 xxxx

What's happened to the rest of them ???

Most documentation on the web doesn't seem to apply to 2.x anymore.

Thanks

Robert

Hi there. If you can specify which bit of the Moodle 2 documentation you think is out of date I will see if it can be updated for you. In the meantime - have a read of this - http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Roles_FAQ#Why_can.27t_I_add_teachers_or_students_site_wide_in_Moodle.3F and also (in terms of adding your students and teachers site wide) http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Creating_custom_roles

Hi, thanks Mary.

I'd never find my way back to the section I was reading now.

In the meantime, I read the end of the document you linked me to, and realised I was trying to do exactly what it warns against...

But in the mean time, I took a deep breath, though about what I was doing, and found my way to the COURSE settings.

Because I'd added the teacher manually - he'd never enrolled in a Course. Once I enrolled him I could then specify his 'role' - nonediting teaher.

Thank you for your answering post, as it did help me understand and remind me what is supposed to happen.
