I upgraded from Moodle 2.1.1 to 2.1.2 and now when I create a crossword game and attempt to play it I get this error:
error/game_cross_continue: There are no words
I fixed the problem by uninstalling the mod, uploading the newest version, and reinstallating at the notifications screen. Seems to work fine now.

Check the parameters of module game.
Maybe you don't allow spaces and your words have spaces.
