Best practice for enrolment and sync

Best practice for enrolment and sync

We are currently in the process of moving from external 1.9.10 to an internal 2.1 and we want to take advantage of automatic account and course creation and enrolment. My question is that I am a little confused as to what the recommended way to achieve this is. From my reading there are a few features that do some/all parts. Note we use SIMS.net and AD

The way I think it could work is create a Security Group named the short title of the course and its members are the students and another Group containing the teachers. I believe this is how ldap_enrolment works?

So what are the benefits of Cohorts and Cohort sync? Is it just having a group that can force multiple course enrolments when modified?

http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/Integrate_Moodle,_LDAP_and_SIMS.net – is this out of date now with cohorts and ldap_enrolment?

Hope this makes some sense…

Thanks! John

Hi John,

I was the original creator of the the documentation you have linked to. Our Integration has moved on a lot since then and away from directly from the SIMS.net database

We have since developed ZiLink that integrates Moodle and SIMS.net. ZiLink will create categories/course/cohort and groups in Moodle from data in SIMS.net and keep it upto date. It also allows navigation in Moodle via the student/staff timetable.

For more information have a look at this http://support.schoolsict.net/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/15/5/what-does-zilink-do

ZiLink is available for Moodle 2.1
