Although this post is quite old, I was quite disppointed to see it had received no answer. I would vote several times to implement automatic groups in meta-courses based on meta-links. Alas, this has only received a 'minor' interest rating, and apparently no follow-up.
Has anybody found a way around?

By now, cohorts are all under the context of 'Category'.Is it possible that cohorts be under the context of 'Personal' ? Then teachers can group students of his/her cohort easily.
