Moodle in English: IE8 google maps and moodle

Hi all

Moodle 2.0.4+ (Build: 20110907)

The google map down the page a bit has pushpins - fully visible in Firefox - but IE8 users are telling me they can't see the pins.

1. Can I ask folks to confirm or deny that (along with the version of IE8 being run) - thank

2. I have read that

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />

will force IE8 to behave like its better behaved older brother IE7 - but I guess that needs to go at the top of the page (I tried, just on a crazy hope and off chance) to put it at the top of the html of the label but no cigar). Anyone know where I might be able to put that meta tag to achieve this - or any other workaround for googlemaps and IE8 please?

Can anyone help please?

Replying to myself. Some of the process more sorted -but still no cigar.

Being moodle2 I had no header.html, so put the meta tag <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" /> in the <head> sections of general.php in the theme - then checked 'view source' after clearing the theme cache, and the meta tag was there. So far so good... (posted here to help others)

....but.... I think it didn't fix the IE8 problem of not being able to see the pushpins on a google map on that frontpage. (indeed I did a test with IE8 on XP in a virtual machine on my linux box, and I could not get the map to load at all - in Compatibiltiy View mode, or not - and indeed I couldn't see the embedded youtube video either).

Can someone running IE8 natively on Windoze take a look for me and let me know if the youtube video, map and push pins can be seen please? Thanks to anyone who can find the time to take a peek
