Decimal seperator

Decimal seperator

Dear fellow-math-Moodlers,

How can we replace the decimal seperator . by a , in our calculated / cloze quiz questions to better suit our National (Dutch) standards?

I've searched the forums and documentation and found out that this should be handled by the locale setting, but our locale setting does not seem to affect the decimal seperator in our calculated quiz / cloze questions...

Is this by design or is there any other way to achieve this?

Thanks in advance!

Floris

Hi,

We would really appreciate any pointers on this decimal problem... We are developing a diagnostic test database in Moodle for the purpose of remedial teaching in math at a large school organization and this problem with the decimal seperator is a show-stopper, because the students will get confused when confronted with questions with comma's where they would expect a period. We would not be able to truthfully assess their math skills if this confusion is in the equation. So any help would be greatly appreciated... How can we apply national (Dutch) standards for the decimal (comma) and thousand (period) seperator in our quiz questions? Our locale is already set to Netherlands, but they're still the other way around?

Thanks in advance!

Floris

Which version of Moodle are you using?

If you can upgrade to Moodle 2.1, that should fix your problem.

Actually, we work in Moodle 2.1.1+ (Build: 20110928) (keytoschool is our providers, so we can not install plugins)

and apparently CLOZE questions won't accept comma separated values.  Only numbers with points as decimal separator are accepted.

very frustrating when you are use to separate decimals with comma

all suggestions are welcome

In Moodle 2.1 it should use exactly the grading code from the numerical question type in the Cloze question type.

If you have an example where (one bit of a) cloze question behaves different from a numerical question, it would be very interesting to know the details.
