Can someone Explain this to me?

Hello Folks,

Can someone explain this to me? I'm doing a clean install.

1: I'm using GoDaddy.com Hosting Service with SSH now turned off.

2: I uploaded the latest build of 2.1+ as of today 08.27.11

Here is a screen shot.

My question is What is "home/content/94/8215794"? I can't change anyting else? Why? Shouldn't it be html/moodle2/moodle? for almost everything?

PLEASE HELP.  Thanks.

No, because this is GoDaddy's location for your account on the shared hosting plan you have signed up for.

Your domin name www.alczar.com is just that a "name" which is set only as the website address...it is not the server address which is where all your files are.

It is a complex thing to understand I know ... but there you are. Just let Moodle tell you what to do next...and you won't go wrong.

So....This is a good thing?

I say this because:

1: I can access my server via FTP via Dreamweaver CS4 and see all my files/folders.

2: I can access my Server via GoDaddy.com's FTP Manager and see all my files/folders

3: Where are my uploaded images/PDF's stored on the server? I don't see them.  I can upload images via the New moodle which is great!

But, I am unable to create a folder on the Admin "Repository area" to upload on the site.

Where would it store my images/PDF's?  It's like it's somewhere else in Server land?  Thanks. If I can figure out the direct path then I'm all set smile

Thanks again.

Your images and other files are stored in the moodledata folder in code - so you can't easily work out which is which. If you want to create a repository and ftp items up there to use in Moodle, then look here http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/File_system_repository_configuration

HI Aaron,

And you can be sure the info in the docs is easy to understand because Mary's done a lot of work on them (several other people contributed but Mary's done the lion's share).

Cheers,

Glenys

Oh Glenys- just to be accurate - I have done hardly any docs at allblush - But there are lots of people working on them and helping improve/update them for Moodle 2.0 - they can be spotted by the "docs" icon by their profile picture (which I don't have because I haven't done enoughsmile)

Oh dear Mary, once again I wasn't precise enough. clown I just meant about http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/File_system_repository_configuration.

When I look at the History it seems to me your name appears frequently and before you started in there weren't all those neat screenshots (there was just one). They really make things easy to understand for non techies like me. If I'm attributing to you work actually done by those other nice people: Tim, Derek, Chris, Helen, Tomaz, Colin... I abjectly apologise to them.

Cheers,

Glenys

Hello again,

I'm back and still unable to find where on earth my files are.  I can upload new files via the upload files box which is great. But, I can't see then via FTP.  I have followed every step correctly using the previous links provided but, get stuck half way though.  Here are some screen shots to show progress.  Any help would be great thanks.

Aaron

Step 1: Goto Site Admin/Plugins/Repositories/Manage Repositories.

Step 2: Click on Settings link

Step 3: Click on "Creat a repository instance" button at the bottom of the page.

Step 4: Type in a name of folder? then click "Save" button.  ~ * This is where nothing happens.* ~ Nothing is created or anything? I don't know what is happening. Any guesses? Clules? Is it because I'm on shared hosting with GoDaddy.com and the "home/content/94/8214794 filepath is somewhere online? that's what I beleave the problem is but, I'm not 100% sure.

Hope this helps ~ Aaron

Hi there. Have you looked at the documentation here? http://docs.moodle.org/20/en/File_system_repository You can't upload files through Moodle and expect to see them in the file system repository -it works the other way round. If you want to see files you have uploaded then you look in "recent files" or "server files" but if you go to the server all you will see (in moodledata or whatever Godaddy calls the directory) will be lists of numbers, because Moodle codes all the files you upload. So if you want to see "real "files with proper names then you upload them via FTP to a folder you created (see the documentation link above) and then you can bring them into your course in Moodle by selecting them from the file system repository when you go to add a file.
