open id plugin help

good evening everyone!

I've been asked to include moodle open id plugin to my class, but I don't know a lot about it. I've read the related posts and my questions are these:

1) I installed open id and enabled it from the authentication in moodle administration. I can see it in the login page. Now what? users have to register to moodle and they will be able to login with their open id? but in the registration form there is no option for the open id...

2) I tried to type yahoo.com in the open id box, but a blank page appeared... maybe something went wrong with the installation?

Sorry if the questions are silly, but I'm new with this and I really don't know what is this all about!

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Ilona

FYI, the OpenID plugin that is available for public download has several bugs that prevent it from working correctly.  There are patches in their bug tracker (https://bugs.launchpad.net/moodle-openid) that fix many issues.  Regarding your questions,

1) Users can register just by logging in with their OpenID account (the first time they try to log in with the account, it will register them).  Or, if they are already registered, or they register manually, then they can switch to OpenID be either using the OpenID block, if you have it displayed, or by going to the login page once they're already logged in to their Moodle account.

2) That sounds like https://bugs.launchpad.net/moodle-openid/+bug/337591 .  The OpenID plugin needs access to a random number source.  If it doesn't have access to a proper random number source, you can tell it to use a pseudo-random number generator (see the above link for how to do this).
