Automatic enrol in second course with first Moodle 2?

Automatic enrol in second course with first Moodle 2?

Moodle 2.0

I have a course that is part of two categories - for organizational purposes:

i.e.

School for breeders >  ABCs

School for judges > ABCs

ABCs is the same course.  I presently have made empty courses under the School for judges that redirects to the complete course located in the School for breeders.

The issue is the students must enrol in the one under the judges before the redirect works,  then they come to the full course and need to enrol again.

Is there anyway to make an automatic enrollment in the full course when they enrol in the redirected course?

Or does someone have a better suggestion to handle this?

Did not think of that as I have never used a meta course - I will go and see what I can learn.

thanks,, Mary

Also, is it possible to remove the Parent course from the Course lists?

I would like for the child course names to appear and be forwarded to the parent (which is not seen in the course list).

Just thought - can I put it in a hidden category?

I hid the category and made the meta course available -

everything works great except I am unable to allow enrollment without a key.  The last hurdle to jump.

Does anyone have any documentation or reason for a "child" course to be required to have a key for self-enrolment?

Thank you - Sharon

Well after about 2 hours of further searching, I found the answer:

http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=170592

I had the site default set to require an enrollment key -

So, guess I answered the entire situation myself - thanks to Mary for the Metacourse suggestion to get me started.

Sharon,

You should not need a course key for a meta course.   Enrolment is wholly dependant on the parent course.    Meta courses are branches in the main course.

If a student tryes to get in anyother way they should get Unavailable.

Mary -

I removed the test users from the Parent course - made a new

child course -

set up the meta course to receive the enrollments from the child.

So, now they enrol in the child course and are automatically in the parent and are redirected correctly (I believe).

I want to use self enrolment in the two sections (children) and not require a Key - it will not allow me to do that.  Am I mising something?

Can other courses on your Moodle have self enrolment without a key (ie, it;'s not that a key has been set as required in courses is it?) I will test it out tomorrow myself
