Hi,

I've created a free mobile messaging app for Moodle 1.9 or 2.0 users which is based on the Moodle messaging function. This app currently runs on Android and iPhone devices and integrates with Moodle via an open source web service plug-in.

The messaging works just like sms text messaging on the phone but there is zero message cost to the users or institution.

The app can be branded for your institution and allows both students and staff to send and receive messages from the phone. This also allows for group messaging by staff, course teachers and send group messages to course members from the Moodle messaging web interface.

I'm giving this app away completely free and I'm i the process of creating a web site, www.vlemobile.com this is still under construction over the next few weeks. Hi John

This looks like a very interesting development - great stuff !

Will you be following the usual process of adding an entry to the Modules and Plugins page here on Moodle.org?  That will probably help people find it more easily smile

Just a quick question - will the free version allow for organisation branding?  From a Moodle Community perspective I think a free 'light' version, and a paid for 'brandable' version is quite acceptable - and follows a well established business model (you have to pay for your development time somehow!)

Thanks for the feedback. To answer the question - 'when will it be released', well it's already completed on Android so if you want it then you can have it now, just email me or let me know your contact details here.

I'm not sure yet how I will distribute it, probably as an open source project and charge if people want me to install it for them. My aim is to create a free simple alternative to expensive messaging systems used in FE and HE.

I'll post more info here when I've published it.
