Basic Moodle Question

Basic Moodle Question

We have developed several online courses to use with Moodle.  The courses include quizzes and a test.  If we host Moodle on Hostgator or a similar ISP, we were told that if someone started a quiz or test and stopped, they would have to start all over.  We would like the student to be able to log back in and start where they left off.  We were also told that the only way to accomplish this is to use MoodleRooms or a MoodlePartner.

My question:  Can we host it on Hostgator or similar ISP and have give the student the ability to log back on where the student stopped?  Is there a special plug in needed or do we have to use a MoodlePartner to host it for us?

Thank you.

So, you are saying we CAN host it ourselves and student's won't have to start from the beginning if they stop in the middle of a test?

Is there a Moodle for Dummies or what would be the best resource for someone who is brand new with Moodle?

Yes- but that *could* depend on quiz settings - e.g. set the quiz so that "Each attempt builds on the last", for example and students will always see their previous questions and answers. If your quiz has a time limit - when the time is up the student is finished and then would have to start again, etc. There is more information here:

The Using Moodle book is a quite good place to start. Many Moodle Partners also offer excellent online and face-to-face training. For example, we have a series of courses on Moodle: http://remote-learner.net/training

What you need to worry when using a shared hosting service that you may get performance issues when more students take the quizzes and the test at the same time. On a shared host, your Moodle is sharing resources with a large number of other sites, and Moodle is more resource, specially memory, hungry than others. An upgrade to VPS might remedy this. MoodleRooms or a MoodlePartner are set up specifically for Moodle, so such issues are unlikely.

I moved my site to vps to address these issues and have more than one site on it.  It works fine.  I liked Using Moodle as a book.
