When setting up a workshop there is no way to assign  the workshop to a grading category in the gradebook from the set-up page.

Which moodle version? It's working for me on 2.0.3+

Perhaps the "categories and items" table seen in "grade administration" is too wide to fit on the screen and you don't see the icons to move items around.

A tip: click anywhere on the table and use cursor keys to scroll it horizontally to the right until you see the icons.

Thanks.  But I am talking about within the workshop when you set it up. Not in the gradebook.

The workshop grade is a combination of the submission and the assessment and thus is more complicated to calculate. Perhaps we can create a feature request to add it is currently not there. I'm not sure how complicated it would be to add it but if you create the tracker issue then others can comment, vote, and watch accordingly. Peace - Anthony

Thanks Vernellia for spotting this. If I remember correctly, I had a reason for this. As you know, the Workshop creates actually two grade items in the gradebook and the teacher can put each of them into separate categories. Then if the Workshop setting form is updated and the gradebook category is set there, we do not know what grade item it should apply to.

The solution might be to have two fields for each grade item (grade for submission and grade for assessment). But that would require a bit of research of if and how the Moodle core supports such thing.

Anyway, creating the issue in the tracker is a good idea.

My partner in teaching who came to moodle with me several years ago because of workshop has decided not to use moodle next year because workshop is so cluncky now. I am still on the fence. I realize that there were many good programming reasons for several of the choices but they definitely have made workshop more time intensive to use for the teacher. This is one of them. It might seem like a little thing to go into the grade book to assign workshop to two categories but as you know moving things in gradebook is "slow". So when you do 26 -30 workshops per course. -- that results in 52 - 60 items that have to be moved -- that is time that could be spent other places.
