Using Xerte + Moodle Quiz + Frame = A "new" method of Engaging Students during assessments

Hi y'all

We all know Moodle's Quiz module right? Well to me, even by itself it's a really good assessment
tool of students' understanding. However, by itself, the design is mainly text based and very,
very sterile in outlook. Well, all that's GONNA CHANGE with MY NEW WORKING DESIGN!

I've created a mashup of Xerte 2.15, Moodle's Quiz module and good old HTML Frame codes to
achieve a new format of a quiz. I think that it's a good way of engaging the student with a
multi-sectioned quiz screen.

What is this? Well, it's a quiz page that is divided into 3 frames:
Top frame = quiz page;
Left frame = menu of video links;
Right frame = resizable video screen.

The idea is to present quiz questions that are based on the videos that the student can choose from
the bottom left frame menu and view in the bottom right frame. The videos can either be uploaded
flv files or YouTube hyperlinks.

So what's the big idea here? Well, you can test the student's understanding on what he or she had
watched from the video, and the student never needs to leave the page since both the quiz section and
the video sections are on the same screen.
Also the idea is for the user to be able to resize the video section so that he or she can maximise the
quiz frame area. Give it a try on my website!

In addition, the student can replay the video as often as he or she likes as long the student does not run
out of time on the quiz.

Tell me what you think....do you think that this presents an opportunity
for the tutor to engage the student in a different kind of video quiz?

I am thinking even of having the top frame, one of Andrew Field's EXCELLENT SCORM quiz games
(http://www.contentgenerator.net) like Penalty Shootout, Fling The Teacher. Can you imagine that
with me for just a moment? Here's a sample "imagination mock-up" screenshot of what could be:

I think a combination of online Video and a flashy Flash Quiz Game could be a winning
combination in getting students to be really engaged in quiz taking.

Lastly, if you are interested in the code, I will email it to you. Maybe
you can help me to get the Youtube window to resize correctly with the
height:width aspect ratios being maintained (at the moment the Youtube
window does not change in size when the frame bars are resized).

Just send me an email and I'll send you the attachment code (mainly
HTML, Xerte code files and Xerte multimedia system files - aruond 4+ Meg only).
