How to track & report on student participation?

Hi all,

Do you all have any tips/strategies for reporting on student participation?  In particular, how to generate a report to track participation in terms of:
  1. How many messages a particular student has posted,
  2. and in which forums.
  3. How many assignments a particular student has completed.

In course settings, click on the "Show Activity." This will appear in the student admin menu next to the "Grades" link.

I sometimes have students print out these reports and then comment upon them for me. (Accounting for latenesses or missing work). It takes paper, though...

George,

I don't know how to do this on all students at once, but if you click on a students profile/activity report/complete this will give you what you are looking for. It may be a pain to do this for each individual student if you have several in a class, but it does give a complete report of all activities.
