Installed BigBlueButton... Now what?

I have set up BBB 0.70 on a dedicated Ubuntu Server 10.10. Everthing went fine with that. I installed the BBB plug-in for Moodle 1.9.10 which is running on Windows Server 2003 SP2 and IIS6 and that went fine too. I can access the BBB Demo portal by browsing to the IP of the Ubuntu server and I can join the session.

In Moodle, I go to Site Administration --> Modules --> Activities --> BigBlueButton and enter the info for my server (Server IP, Security SALT and * for the Meeting IDs). I put a check in the Update box and click the "Save changes" button. In the "Manage activities" section, I can see the BigBlueButton activity module listed, vesion 2010080401.

PHP version 5.2.14 is installed.

Now what?? No where can I find where to create or schedule a meeting... I've looked all over for a "how-to" document but haven't found a thing.

Thanks!
Dave

In your course sections activity choice, you'll find a new activity named bigbluebutton. Your teachers can now create how many rooms as they needs. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Sergio but I don't see anything named BigBlueButton under courses.
I've attached a screenshot...

Sorry, as i can understand, it seems you're not so used to play with moodle...

You must create a new course with the add function liste in the menu screenshooted, then inside the course just created, enable the editing mode (i suppose you're an admin, so you can do that) with the button (tipically located in the top/right of the page).

Then in the first "section" in the middle of the page, you can add a new activity, where you'll find the bigbluebutton choice.

Sincerely yours.

What Sergio said is accurate, but let me add this for clarity, you'll add Bigbluebutton "rooms" the same way you would add quizzes, SCORM/AICC, or any other activity option. You can also add one to your frontpage if you wanted to, but it fits better within courses - that gives you more granular access controls.

Thanks Sergio and Jeremy,

Even though I administer the Moodle server, I admit that I'm not a hard-core Moodle user... Both of your suggestions have me on the right track now. I'll play around with it for a while and see how it can work for us (scheduling, invitations, access control, etc...).

Too bad there isn't a Moodle-BBB user guide or customization tutorial somewhere that would have the tips and tricks many of us end-users could use!

There are quite a few installation guides like the one you pointed out. Even Google didn't find many end-user guides...

Ubuntu 10.10, BigBlueButton (BBB), and Moodle ?

by Andrew Plett -

I would be very grateful if someone could provide a step-by-step (for dummies) on:

  • Installing Ubuntu 10.10
    • Server (Is this the way to go?)
    • Desktop (Will this work just as well?)
  • Installing BigBlueButton (BBB) on the Ubuntu machine
  • Adding BigBlueButton (BBB) to Moodle

P.S. When I say "For Dummies" I mean just that. I am not a programmer and do not have server experience. mixed

For Example:

  1. Click on "Applications"
  2. Click on "Terminal"
  3. Etc.

Hello Andrew,

Either Server or desktop will work. Follow the instruction here. Note: use the 10.04 instruction.

Follow the step by step instruction here. To integrate with moodle.

Come back if you have any difficulty.
