Can you help me with a hardware reccomendation

Hi all,

We are a countywide consortium of school districts.  We are currently running a moodle server that is lightly used.  We are also in the process of hiring a technical trainer.  As part of this person's job role we expect to see large growth in the number of teachers using Moodle.

I have examined the "User site capacities" document at http://docs.moodle.org/en/User_site_capacities.  However, at this point it's hard to speak to how many concurrent users I might end up with.

I'm curious if anyone has had experience with similar numbers to ours and could perhaps offer some recommendations.  We have approximately 24,000 students and 1650 teachers.

Thanks So Much!

Brad

Too vague to recommend a particular hardware. Just buy the best server you can afford and put the maximum RAM it would take! You'll find a lot of similar discussions in the forum, for example http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=158780 Do a search here.

How about http://docs.moodle.org/en/Performance ?

Then why do you want to go for a bigger server today? Alternatively the technical person joining your institution can take over the upgrade process. The way hardware is getting outdated it is always better to buy them when they are needed.

The absolute number doesn't say anything about the performance needed. See also http://docs.moodle.org/en/Performance_FAQ
