You can use the formula, but you can also use this aggregation method for your Course Total: Weighted Mean of grades.
Add your graded items into sub-categories first (those can be set to SUM or SWM aggregation methods), and then assign weights (percentages) to those sub-categories.

Hello,
I have the same question and I tried to set up weights using Grade Categories, thinking that I could weight the Categories instead of the individual grade items. For instance, in my course: The Final Exam = 25% of the grade;Mid Term=20%, Debate=15%; 3 papers are 20% total, Quizzes are 20%.
I created Grade Categories for each of these but the Exam category did not give me the option to weight it likes the others. The Exam Category happens to be the first category and below that category is Mid Term. Bottom line, I am confused about how to weight everything according to a Syllabus outline.
I am famliar how Blackboard works but this seems to be different.
Thank you
Serge
Hi Sergio,
Your scenario is a little different than the previous example. It seems like you have multiple papers and multiple quizzes and single item Final and Midterm. I would set your GB this way: Top level=weighted mean of grades..each CATEGORY set to Simple Weighted Mean of Grades (SWM) with the corresponding % for each category..you can even use this option with the Mid Term & Final. Then add your GRADE ITEMS to each category (Q1, Q2, P1, P2, etc). You do not need to weight each ITEM with this method, only the CATEGORY. Hope this helps
