My Moodle: Using My Moodle or ?? like Facebook Walls

Hi.  I was asked today by a client if I could add a feature to his Moodle site where students could search for others (within the course or site), and add them as friends, like in Facebook.  They would then share content, like on a FB wall or Twitter followers.

At first blush, I thought of Groups...I don't see that working.

Then I thought of MyMoodle, but no...

It has to be student-driven, with the admin or teacher doing nothing once the function is enabled to start with.

Does anyone have any ideas?

There's this Facebook WallScript 5.0 by Srinidas http://wall.9lessons.info/ that has this feature. I requires some effort to get it installed and working for a Moodle site. PHP (mostly) and some MySQL (minimal) knowledge is needed to customise the code to suite a Moodle 2.x coursepage.

I have done some work customising Version 3.0 of Srinidas' Wallscript for my Moodle site (I've managed two versions of the 'Moodle-ised' wall - 1.9 and 2.x versions). However what I've done lacks the "Like" button, adding of friends and a display "More" updates button. Version 5.0 by Srinidas has what you requested.
