I was running 1.3.4 + and I tried to upgrade it to 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 using CVS. When the process was finished, I found the version installed IS 1.3.5.
Do I have to use download archive to install the new stable version 1.4.1 or 1.4.2?

I just find the option to cvs to upgrade to the version I want. It is
cvs update -dP -r MOODLE_14_STABLE
