Why does Internet Explorer "lock down" or boot students from quiz?

Why does Internet Explorer "lock down" or boot students from quiz?

I have a class where over one half of the students taking a quiz in Moodle 1.9.5 were kicked off or the quiz closed apparently by Internet Explorer. Is there an issue with IE 7 and not other IE versions?

The quiz was an essay set for 60 minutes in a secure window.

I am aware that  If you turn on the "Allow paste operations via script" feature, you receive the following security alert whenever a Web site tries to access to your Windows clipboard by using the DHTML Editing Component:

Internet Explorer
Do you want to allow this page to paste information from your clipboard?

This appears to be a different issue. I did not find quiz closing due to IE browser  in a search. I hope this hasn't been answered and I missed it.

What do you mean by "kicked off or the quiz"?

How is the quiz set up? What did the students do? What happened?

If you want us to help, please explain step-by-step, and avoid colloquialisms. We need to establish exactly what happened.
