Thanks for sharing your Aardvark-Green theme. Just moving this thread to the themes forum in Using Moodle...
Try reloading the theme to the server, then try again.
Sarah,
Upload the zip file to the server and unzip it there. This should sort the issue.
Cheers
Colin.
I reuploaded everything but in the theme selector area it says in red Moodle 1.4. I have downloaded the only version available... What am I doing wrong? I haven't modified anything within the theme.
You need to upload the theme using the cPanel at your Host website.
yes, I have done ... but I have the same problem with sarah, I managed to upload themes, when I select it, I get a white screen
OK...which version of Moodle are you using and was it working OK before you started to add new themes?
Hi,
You can download a revised version of Aardvark Green from my website HERE it cleans up some of the php code that may have contributed to the problem you were having.
To get this into your Moodle theme directory on your site follow these instructions:
- Make sure your OLD Aardvark Green theme is deleted from the your Moodle site.
- Login to your Webhost member area and using cPanel upload aardvark_green.zip to your area on your website.
- Using cPanel Extract the contents of aardvark_green .zip into your moodle/theme/.. directory
- next Login to your Moodle site and got to Theme Selector Aardvark Green should be there for you to choose.
If you end up with the same problem, get your host help-desk person to add the theme for you. OK
Cheers
Mary
thank u very much...
i will try it
Hi
New to this, Installed the template everything looks great, but how do I change the menu links as they still link back to the original site when i click on courses for example it directs me here http://bungay.moodle.overnetdata.com/login/index.php
any help would be great.
Rgds
Ray
Wherever you see a menu/sub-menu title you need to add your own.
And in the part where you see<a href="url...blah...blah...blah"> you need to add your own absolute address for each link.
For example:
$text ='<li><a href="http://mail.google.com/a/bungaymiddleschool.com">Gmail</a></li>'; Make changes where highlighted in yellow, to reflect your own hyperlinks (see below)
$text .='<li><a href="ADD YOUR HYPERLINK URL HERE">Link title goes here</a></li>';
regards
Mary
Hi Mary
Thats great, Thanks very much for your help.
Rgds
Ray
Hello to every one. I want to change the links and replays them with greek words but it doesn't show me properly the letters. I think so there is problem with the encoding utf-8. Do you know how to fix it???
Thanks
Ray,
Open and edit the aardvark_menu.php file, it contains the code for the links. You can replace what I have with links to your own pages. Follow Mary's instructions below.
Cheers
Colin.
Sarah,
I'm not sure what's going on I have the theme running on 3 sites. How are you uploading the files? Instead of directly uploading the .zip folder by ftp or sftp can you upload it via cpanel and then unzip the folder inside the themes directory? This is how I installed the original theme that I based this version on as I got the white screen with aardvark_1.2 pro also. Let me know how you get on.
Colin.
Sarah,
Glad to be of assistance, I hope you enjoy the theme.
Cheers
Colin
I think you might have created your Green theme based on the first download of Aardvark Pro, because it too had the same problem when uploading it via FTP. The theme's creator Shaun had left some rogue Mac files in the download. This came to light in the discussion on this forums HERE
http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=141577#p620198

Mary
Mary,
Thanks for the tip, I downloaded the theme from http://vle.newbury-college.ac.uk/theme/packages/aardvark_pro1_2.zip direct from the themes page on the 12th Feb 2010. If this is not the correct version (ie cannot be uploaded via ftp) could you point me in the direction of the new one. It will obviously save a bit of hassle for those wanting to try out the theme.
Cheers
Colin.
Colin,
This is exaclty how i'm am uploading the file but i am still getting the white screen, and the menu looks jacked up...?
I have not altered anything yet.
You can then extract what's left. This new folder can them be uploaded to your server. But DELETE your current aardvark_green theme from your server first, and then upload the new folder.
I think you will find this works.
Cheers
Mary
Hi Colin
Great, thanks for the quick response.

Ray
(VERY new to the whole Moodle community, etc: so, apologize if my questions are redundant and/or hare-brained ..)
I'm somewhat HTML savvy, but admit I'm quite PHP, CSS challenged. : (
I'm going to use this theme for a course I'm developing for a small non-profit and I'd like to change a few things:
- Take out the picture at the top (did that)
- Change the main header logo and put the company logo in its place (exact same dimensions, did that too)
But, doing number 1 and 2 above has changed the alignment of the graphic logo and the calendar thingy at the top-right of the screen (the little square that says "Friday 19 February 2010"
The size of this date square grows/shrinks dynamically to adapt to the number of characters in the current date. Any way of making that size static?
Also, how hard would it be to change the color of the green bar at the top? (the nice menu bar that has "My Moodle", etc.
Best, Andre Brassard
How did you tackle the LOGO? Did you use the same size image as the site logo and load your own company image to replace the original, or did you physically change some code in the header.html file?
Same goes for the user picture top right.
The menu color uses an image, and is all governed by CSS. The item in red is the image together with it's location in your aardvark_green theme folder.
Here's the code...
I'll be back with more code for the Logo fix but may miss the edit time on this post!
be back later
Mary
Here's the FIX...
First make sure you have brand new copies of profileblock.php header.html and aardvark.css (make copies of these and store in a safe place).
STEP 1:
1. Take out this php code (see below coloured blue) from the top of the profileblock.php file. This takes out the User picture.
<div class="profilepic" id="profilepic">
<?PHP
echo '<a href="'.$CFG->wwwroot.'/user/view.php?id='.$USER->id.'&course='.$COURSE->id.'"><img src="'.$CFG->wwwroot.'/user/pix.php?file=/'.$USER->id.'/f1.jpg" width="80px" height="80px" title="'.$USER->firstname.' '.$USER->lastname.'" alt="'.$USER->firstname.' '.$USER->lastname.'" /></a>';
?>
</div>
STEP 2:
Replace the following code (see below) into the aardvark.css file.
This floats the profileblock to the right into the space left by the User picture.
/***
*** Core: ProfileBlock
***/
#profileblock {
float: right;
text-align: right;
max-width: 440px;
margin-right: 5px;
}
/*
#profilepic {
text-align:right;
float: right;
margin: 8px;
width: 80px;
height: 80px;
border: 1px solid #ffffff;
}
*/
#profilename {
background-color: transparent;
text-align:right;
width: 440px;
margin-top:12px;
margin-bottom:0px;
float: left;
}
.profilename, .profilename a {
background-color: #ffffff;
color:#93CC3E;
font-size:1.4em;
letter-spacing: -3px;
text-decoration: none;
font-weight:bold;
}
.profilename, .profilename a:hover {
background-color: #ffffff;
color: #B0DA72;
text-decoration:none;
}
#profileoptions {
text-align:right;
width: 440px;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
float: right;
text-transform: capitalize;
}
#profileoptions ul li {
padding-left: 20px;
background-color: transparent;
display: inline;
}
.profileoptions {
text-decoration: none;
letter-spacing: -1px;
}
.profileoptions,.profileoptions a {
background-color: transparent;
color:#93CC3E;
}
.profileoptions a:hover {
background-color: transparent;
color: #B0DA72;
text-decoration:none;
}
STEP 3:
Upload the new header.html, the aardvark.css, and the profileblock.php to your server. Then view the page in your browser and refresh screen to see changes if necessary.
Hope this fixes the problem. If it doesn't then you must have changed other elements , like the menubar.php which is not covered in the above. If you have changed the menubar.php file I will need to know where, and what, in order to suggest a fix for you.
Hope this bit works anyway.
Mary
I used the same header.html file. The only change I made was creating a new file called logo.gif, and plopped it in the place. I DID make significant changes to the aardvark_menu.php file. I guess I should have phrased my original question a bit differently. The code behaves as designed, it's just that I'd like my graphic to line up with that green bar. Right now, it lines up differently with each day of the week (literally). Because that bar grows/shrinks accordingly.
For the logo, I used a combination of Gimp (the open source freeware) and Microsoft Paint. And just created ONE big logo that spans most of the header.
I'll let you know how I make out ..
Best, A.
Sorry if I misunderstood your question. On first read I thought you had perhaps altered the header.html which can have strange things happen to your pages.
I'd be tempted to put the original menu php file back and then take it slower making changes.
Good luck anyway
Mary
Thanks again.
Andre B.
Andre,
You may want to look at Camtasia Studio, it works as a PowerPoint plugin but allows you to add SCORM complient content into the presentation, meaning that the resource becomes interactive and gradeable.
Colin
First, very nice theme.
I am having some challenges with front page blocks on the right side. The blocks do not adjust and they "hang over" the edge of the white background. They look Ok in a course, just the front page. I have not been able to figure out to fix this. I attched a picture to show what I am referring to. Thanks
Mark
Mark,
What browser are you using? I cannot recreate this effect unless I hold ctrl and scroll in using the mouse wheel to a massive zoom. This theme has only been tested in IE8 and FF 3.6.
regards
Colin
Just an fyi, i have been using your theme in ie7 with no problems. I haven't tried in ie6 however
Mark
If it isn't an image which is forcing the side block to move to the right, then there must be some other object on the front page which is causing this sideways slippage.
regards
Mary
Ah, of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Thank you (and Colin) for the hint!
That problem you discribed should be number one in the Moodle FAQ page!
Glad to be of help
Mary
Mark
Hope this is of help to you?
Mary
Thank you Mary. I had actually gone through the profile section and methodically changed all of the colors one at a time but there was no effect (I even emptied my cache each time). This is why I was confused because I had assumed that font color changes were made in this profile area. I also can not figure out how to change the text color for the other text in the profile block area. Any hints on how to do this would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Mark

Add this to BOTTOM of aardvark.css change color of text and background.

Just been been modifying your Aardvark-Green Theme and have managed to get the side block calendar header image to match the left and right block image headers as well as adding a drop shadow to all block headers.
I've also added an image to the footer and reduced the size of the main logo as it was causing the blocks on the right hand side to be pushed out on some courses and the glossary etc.
Also cleaned up some redundant images as well as deleting all the thumbs.db files before zipping.
There are three versions I've made:-
Green
Purple/Pink
Black/Grey
They can be downloaded from here as I only uploaded them onto the Moodle website themes page today so they have not be approved yet:-

Obviously a huge amount of thanks must go to Shaun Daubney and his original Aardvark Pro 1.2 theme for the core coding but also to you Colin, for your really colourful modifications.
For tweaks etc see the rest of the Aardvark-Green discussion page as well as the Aardvark Pro 1.2 discussion pages
Kind Regards

One thing has really puzzled me though...why are you all still using this, not very W3C Validation friendly font tag in the footer? All of these tags could be lost by using one set of div tags and paragraph line spacing formatted with CSS!!!
<font size="1">
Cheers...
Mary
I'm adding my own menus to the main Title bar, and getting many errors in html formatting. Out of curiousity, I counted the number of tag: specifically the <div> and </div> tags, and they don't match up. Seven for the former, five for the latter.
Anyone know the reason for this?
Thanks, Andre B.
I checked the Green aardvark_menu.php with the original aardvark_pro and these two differ considerably.
If you look at the menu title Courses and Staff Zone you will find these two have starting <div> but no closing </div>
I don't know why this is...perhaps some of the menu code was deleted and Colin forgot to close the div tag. He did close the <li> so my guess is he didn't account for the </div> too. Normally it would not show up, but in your case it did because you were customising/extending the menu.
So in this respect it should be regarded as a BUG and needs fixing in the original download.
Well spotted!
On the fly...personally I don't care much for the use of a <div> being adopted as a css selector because, as you are proving Andre, it can be forgotten to be closed. The div in the aardvark menu could easly be replaced by a css class selector, inserted with the opening <li> tag and would work just the same, and at the same time be less cumbersome.
Just my thoughts...
Hope you can fix whatever is happening to your menu, Andre?
Cheers
M
Surely closing tags in the footer are associated with tags in the header, and not the menu php.
As far as I can see, the menu php, which is opened and closed with div tags, is called from within the header html. If the menu php needs a final closing div tag, then it should be in the menu php, and NOT in the footer! Or am I missing something?
Mary
EDITED: @12:12pm
Chris,
Further to what I wrote here earlier, I've found 2 </div> which seem to be rogue tags. One at the end of the credits where the FONT tags are. The other is at the bottom of the page before the closing BODY tag.
There is NO closing div tag at the start of the footer in my copy of footer.html.
Mary
Grant it that it's probably valid to have opening tags in one file and closing tags in another, but it compounds the level of complexity 10-fold. And, makes it extremely confusing to follow. BUT, much more importantly, it makes the customization nearly impossible.
It MIGHT be doable (customizing that is), if this practice were to be commented thoroughly, but it isn't.
With this, it basically leaves me no choice but to dump this theme and find another one.
Ugh ...
A.
Mary,
Just FYI...I just downloaded the Aardvark_Pro 1.2 (Original) theme and found the same issues with the closing tags. Maybe it slipped into a later version than you have.
Elizabeth
I swear I'll be seeing aardvarks in my dreams next! LOL
Try working with a clean aardvark_menu.php that looks like this:-
<div id="aardvark_menu_date">

// Calculate the number of the current day in the week.

For anyone who is interested I adapted the aardvark_menu.php further, and instead of the divs, which set the zoom element on the sub-menus, I amended the first li of each menu title to incorporate a css class selector 'zoom1' and changed this line in aardvark.css...
from this...
#aardvark_menu ul li div{
position:relative;
zoom:1;
}
to this...

Another BUG?
Mary
I did an Emacs 'count-matches' of all the tags. This is the result of the count.
The very fact FONT tags are in the footer shows that it hasn't been touched much other than to add or amend copyright acknowledgements. Even in Chris's new updated downloads the footer is wrong, it might look right, but it is wrong!
Mary
To add sub menu item headings to a Menu Heading, try changing the code to the following (The changed code is in bold):-
<li><div><a href=http://www.your-website.com/>Menu 1</a>
<ul>
<h4>Sub Menu 1</h4>
<?php
$text ='<li><a href="http://www.your-website.com/item1.htm">Item 1</a></li>';
$text .='<li><a href="http://www.your-website.com/item2.htm">Item 2</a></li>';
echo $text;
?>
<p></p>
<br>
<h4>Sub Menu 2</h4>
<?php

I do like this theme and have spent time already tweaking bits. Now I may be missing something completely obvious but where in the code do I alter to change the menu colour from green to e.g. blue, or add in alternate graphics to replace the green. Can someone help please?

Post exactly what steps you took and what the outcome is
also is it simply a case of pressing ctrl + F5 as the page maybe cached?
Hi Mary,
I seem to have the same issue with the message boxes. The colour for the whole background seems to be pulled into the message box making it dark green and very hard to read.
To which point would I insert the #email {background-color: white} into the CSS?
Sorry, I am a complete amateur with HTML and CSS, although I have managed to marry up two themes to create "my own" one.
Thanks, Anu
I am using the Great Green Theme
I changed the language of the menu and the date block
but the menu and the date block shifted down
what did I miss
any body help me please

Hi Colin.
I need to upgrade my Moodle, but I can not change the theme because everyone is familiar with it.
Please, as I use this theme in Moodle 2.0?
Hi Joao,
The Moodle1.9 themes cannot be used in Moodle2 as the themes work differently.
You could try Mary's AardvarkLite for Moodle2 (which may then need to be recoloured to green) or Colin's Gekko 2.0, which is already a green based theme. Both of these are based on the same Aardvark foundation as the Aardvark-Green theme you are currently using but have been built for Moodle 2.
Hope that helps
Richard
Hi Richard.
My options are: upgrade moodle to version 2.0 without changing your look or leave everything as is.
I can not change the subject, I need to use it.
There is a forecast that this theme be adapted to the new moodle?
Hi Joao,
I'm afraid i don't know if Colin has any plans to adapt this specific theme for Moodle2, but I would be tempted to ask if you want everything to be exactly the same as it is now, why change to Moodle2? In that situation I would probably leave everything as it is and stick with Moodle1.9

I am having the same problem. In the beginning I got pretty scared because the screen got blank. In other words, nothing was coming. First I thought that there is some problem with my system. But then I realized that the issue is related to the theme. I really wonder what I should do now.
If you loaded this 1.9 theme into your Moodle 2.0 site then the best thing is to delete it. I mean detle the Aardvsrk-Green folder NOT your site! Don't worry nothing will happen, your site will be safe, it will revert back to the default theme which is called Standard. From here you can safely select a new theme.

hi how do i change the dark green background color to a tiled picture?
Hi,
You can do this by changing the CSS for this theme. Depending on the css files included in the theme, you need to first upload an image (bground.jpg) to this theme's folder and then make the changes to the relevant css file:
body {background : #fff url(bground.jpg) repeat 0 0 fixed;
This fixes a tiled image called bground.jpg to the body of your browser window for this theme.

Hi
Firstly thank you for this theme, continuing i need yours comments i'm thinking in use this theme in moodle 2.x , it's possible adapt this?. I need select one theme what running in both versions (1.9 and 2.x)
My regards
You will need a Moodle 1.9 theme to work in Moodle 1.9 and a Moodle 2.x to work in Moodle 2.x. It is NOT possible to have one theme work in both versions, sorry.
