It is not possible to use or edit STACK questions without a working connection to Maxima.

Maxima CAS is working properly. Its version is 5.13.0

Monico,

Sorry about this difficulty - if you'd like to email me I'd be happy to help you fix this.  It is probably a file permission issue.

The general installation instructions are online at our Wiki

http://stack.bham.ac.uk/wiki/index.php/Installation

and an FAQ section on is given for each platform under the category "Installation".

http://stack.bham.ac.uk/wiki/index.php/Category:Installation

If you manage to track down what wasn't working without any further help, please let me know by email and we will try to improve the install scripts.

Chris

Hi, Christopher. Thanks for your sooner reply. I read all document related with STACK installation, before to send this message. But, I didn't find anything related with this problem connection between STACK and Maxima.

I'm using Ubuntu Server 9.04

I have installed installed LAMP, Moodle 9.7 and Maxima 5.13.0

All of them are working properly. During the final part of the process to install STACK system, the STACK Health check routine found this problem with Maxima.

Cheers

hi,
I have encountered similar problem in stack test suit.
everything is working fine except Maxima Plots. After requesting plot
test several times (switching from alternate to standard and back) it
eventually works. I am not sure what this problem could be related to.
I have tested it on
Ubuntu 9.10 ( Karmic Koala), Maxima versions 5.17.1 and 5.18.1.

Testing Plots

Maxima timed out

Problem connecting to the CAS. Failure Please check your settings.

There should be two different plots. If two identical plots are seen then this is an error in naming the plot files. If no errors are returned, but a plot is not displayed then one of the following may help. (i) check read permissions on the tmp directory. (ii) change the options used by GNUPlot to create the plot. Some examples are given in maxima\maximaConfig.php around lines 50. Currently there is no web interface to these options.

Missing Plots

If the no errors are returned, but you cannot see a plot above try the following steps:

P.S. Of course I have correct perms on tmp directory.

Hi Monico,

Did you find solution to this problem? I am facing same problem. My Ubuntu is

9.04. Maxima is by default 5.13.0 installed through aptitude. I am using Apache2 , MySql and Moodle 1.9.9

I installed STACK and configured with Maxima and Moodle. On running TestSuite

at the end of STACK istallation it shows connection error with Maxima using

command "maxima". Otherwise I am able to start Maxima.

Did you upgrade Maxima version from 5.13.0 or your Ubuntu version?
