recommendations for pre-test

hello all!
Wondered if anyone had any recommendations for managing pre-tests? We want to set up a test that is essentially worth 0 points towards the total grade, but will display the number of answers the student correctly and incorrectly answered.

I tried setting up a 10 question quiz and set the point value for everything at zero. Doing that didnt provide an easy way to see how many were correct (ie 4/10). I set it up so each question was worth 1 and the whole test was worth 1. I then got a grade of 4/1 for a .40 grade. Better, but still not the best.

Is there away to exclude that pre-test from the grade calculation but still be provided a quick and easy look at the total number of questions answered correct/incorrect? I see at http://docs.moodle.org/en/Quiz_FAQ#Can_I_have_a_quiz_that_is_not_graded.3F I can tell the gradebook not to include the quiz, but not quite sure how to do that...

Thanks!

Wouldn't it be better to make the quiz graded properly, but then change things in the gradebook so the grade for the quiz does not contribute to the final course score?
