How assign grades manually?

I use Moodle 1.9.5+ (Build: 20090826)

Probably this is a common question, but I didn't find any FAQ about it.

How could I assign a grade to a student manually?

I'd like to put a grade to a student independently from any task or assignment or quiz.

Is it possible? How? Many thanks.

You could create a manual grade item: see here

But in my
Site Administration I only have these:

Notifications
Users
Courses
Grades
Location
Language
Modules
Security
Appearance
Front Page
Server
Networking
Reports
Miscellaneous

and within Grades I find:

item.gifGeneral settings
item.gifGrade category settings
item.gifGrade item settings
item.gifScales
item.gifOutcomes
item.gifLetters


where is "Edit Categories and Items" page?

Eventually I found it! Quite well hidden усмивка within the course item itself.
