Hi there Moodlers,
My company is buying a Moodle-based website from a webdevelopment company. The developers have said it will cost them a lot of time to change the Moodle interface to our particalur wishes.
Is the display code (HTML/CSS) in Moodle tightly integrated with the application code? And if so, do you have plans to change this by introducing a template engine like Smarty for example?
At this moment we are looking at extra cost and time for implementing our desired look and feel and this problem will recur every time we update Moodle.

actually to change the look and fee you can just apply a theme there are a list of them at themes.

Really depends apon the customization that you requested them.But still you can request them the breakup with rights of vendor-client relation agreement (if you have one).

I wouldn agree with that, the entire theming for moodle can be altered if you edit the "standard" theme which moodle uses for some basic displays and the theme which you use (which is available for admin to change in Site admin -> Apperance -> themes -> Theme selector)
for example "woods"
this problem will recur every time we update Moodle.
YES , when the elements get alreted or new modules gets installed your present theming file might prove that its missing something

You may want to ask in the Themes forum. Also, you may want to contact a local Moodle Partner rather than a generic web development company, as they would probably know Moodle better, and have a better idea of what needs to be done -- most changes that you want can probably done with a theme, but depending on your exact requirements, there may also be some custom coding required.
