Are filters a heavy load for the server?

Are filters a heavy load for the server?

I love filters because they empower the editing teacher in many ways.
Another Moodler looked terrified when I told him about all my filters.

Is he right? Does filtering put a heavy load on the server?

(The point is that an advanced user can attach HTML-pages with embedded Applets or Flash, but if filters are not a problem, I would prefer them.)

I do NOT filter all strings (Moodle setting)
I allow more then one filter on a page (Moodle setting)
I allow filtering of uploaded HTML (Moodle setting)

These are my current filters:

Flvplayer Schakel uit Omhoog Omlaag Instellingen
Freemind Schakel uit Omhoog Omlaag
Geogebra Schakel uit Omhoog Omlaag

Hi Gers

The only area I am aware of with filtering that can a bad effect is the
Filter all stringsfilterall setting on the Admin>Filters>Manage Filters page.

We have numerous filters active on our sites, and it seems to make little difference.

Of course, you could test this at a quiet time on your server.

Multi language filters are the heaviest in terms of server load I believe.

Have a test course prepared that can work with or without Filters.
Then, temporarily disable filters and compare the speed smile

Of course, the hardware you use makes a difference.
On a powerful server the effect will be far less dramatic than running on a server that is already struggling for processing power.

I must note that we had the Hidden Text Filter at one stage (very cool) but removed it because of some problems - that was a while ago - so it may have been updated now smile

What were those problems? I managed to solve the 'annoying scroll to the top of the browser screen' problem mentioned here.

Just thought you'd like to know.
