Whenever we create a question and add a math type and saved it.
math type content is stored as image .
why it is being saved as image why not content it is making my site heavy.

What do you mean by adding a "math type"?

Do you add images / TeX or something else to your quizzes? From Math type editor or somewhere else some other type of maths?

If you add TeX and use TeX filter, moodle will save content as TeX (code) and render it as images - and rendering many small images is always slow (lots of HTTP requests) unless they are cached - therefore TeX filter is using cache to store images for some time but not forever.

In asciimathml those browsers that support mathml will never use images - they can render mathml directly as ascii/unicode symbols which is the fastest way - but those browsers that do not support mathml will use image fallback anyway to render images...

This was the reason I provided URL demoing GIFT using asciimath..... You might want to look at that again....
