I am teaching an online class at Pacific Islands Bible College. I live on Guam where the main campus is located. One student from Palau reported today that she is unable to post anything in the forum discussion. She is using a dial-up modem and got the following error message when she wanted to post something in the discussion forum:

The requested URL could not be retrieved.
The following error was encountered:
  • zero sized reply
Squid did not receive any data for this request.
Your cache administrator is root

Two other students who use the same forum, had no problems at all, but they live in Guam and Hawaii.

What can be done to avoid the attached error message?

Any help is very appreciated.

With kind regards,

Hartmut

HI Hartmut
I have never got that error in Moodle, but I have had students get that in WebCT when they are logging in from a school which uses Squid. Here is a link to that product site
http://www.squid-cache.org/
In my experience it has always resulted with the user having to work with the network admin for their site, but hat admin was always able to make some type of adjustment on their end to allow it to work...

Hi Tiffany,

Thank you for the link and for your advice. Reading through some forum posts at http://www.squid-cache.org/ helped me to see that extending the max_execution_time and the max_input_time in php.ini may resolve the problem. If not, I have to contact the network admin in Palau.

With kind regards,

Hartmut
