An interesting question from one of my professors:
I have graded the first week's participation and I notice that if the
students have been given 0 points, this does not show up when you go into
Grades unless you drill down into that particular assignment, whereas if
they have been awared more than 0 points, it shows up on the first screen.
Is there any way to avoid this? Otherwise, I can never be sure I really
graded the ones that have nothing showing unless I drill down.

In the "Serving Mathematics" project we have the same requirement for making a distinction between grade 0 and no grade. So if noone else implements this first, we will.
Do you want the 'no grade' option to show up in the gradebook at all?
We implemented in the latest (1.5) lesson, a practice option, which doesn't show up in the gradebook at all.

There have been occasion when I would like to have a "graded" activity NOT be calculated in the grade book total - but still be visible in the grade book. Sometimes we give practice tests, or sample exams. Students would like a record of how they scored - this information is helpful for instructors as well. However, because it is "practice," we don't want the score to calculate into the overall total. Hope this makes sense.

If you are using calculated columns, the grade appears for a practice quiz, but then when you calculate the final average, don't include it. This works for me.
The option to record a zero and have the zero appear is one I would like.

I'd like this one too. I think that perhaps in the case of forums
Not submitted
Submitted but not yet graded
Graded with with grade of zero
may all be not-displayed?

This is a major problem with me, too. There is a big difference between a grade of zero, and an assignment that hasn't been submitted (for any number of good reasons, some of which may require me to exempt the student from the assignment altogether), but, as yet, there is no way to distinguish between these. Does this Gradebook2 hack that people have been talking about here allow for this?
My workaround so far has either been to add a MISSING feedback comment to missing assignments or to add a temporary custom scale, MISSING, INCOMPLETE, RECEIVED, then update the assignment to be out of the actual grade whenever I get around to marking it. It would be much easier if something like this were built into the existing gradebook.
