I would like to know the answer to this question too. I think that there is some sort of javascript, or dtml or something that will clear the the field. My students are using communal computers, and in some cases the cookies may be preserved. Even if they do not know the password to go with the username that is left in the field, they get confused think that the username left their is their own username (as would be the case if they were using their computer back home), and then they wonder why the cannot log in.
