Hello
I have seen a number of people post about how to disable subscription to forums for teachers, but but I want it disabled for students by default. I still want course creators, teachers, and non-editing teachers to subscribe.
I realize that for each forum the setting can be set to subscriptions not allowed, however I dont want to leave this for the instructors to do - would rather it be on site-wide basis.
I went into Capabilities/mod/forum:initialsubscriptions and set this prohibit for students. This didnt solve the problem on those forums that are already created - the link to subscribe is still there when logged in as student.
Any ideas?

I'm facing a related problem in 2.3.
I have two kind of profiles : "student" for active students and "visitor" for old students that are not active anymore but can still access content but not interact with the class.
I want the forums to force subscription for students but prohibit it for visitors. How would that be possible ?
